Lore Concept
Velmarch minted its money from the Ember, so the old coins are still alive.
There are no gold coins on the climb. Velmarch struck its money from Ember shards in the Mint of Saltreach, where loose shards still turn up in the silt, and the coins kept the fire they were cut from. The Coalwrights of Hearthold know what each one does to an item.
Every coin but one is fire, and fire adds. The last is the sea, and the sea erases.
